The Power of Self-Compassion

Ever feel like self-care advice is just another thing on your to-do list? “Treat yo self! Take a bubble bath! Get a massage! Girl, get that cold brew!” …If only it were that easy for those of us juggling a hundred invisible balls in the air. Just chill out and sip or soak your problems away, right?

Self-care as a concept is starting to get a bum rap because of this mentality that we can will away the overwhelm, anxiety, or stress with a little treat or a “grocery store vacation” 🎯 (hey moms, iykyk).

But when therapists talk about self-care, we’re really talking about self-compassion. Yep, I know, another buzzword, right? But hear me out. Self-compassion is all about seeing where we need to cut ourselves a break sometimes. It’s easy to think we should just deal better, or that we’re wrong to feel the way we do when we’re carrying the invisible load.

Self-compassion says, “Hold up there, cowgirl 🤠, you’re being unrealistic with yourself! Let’s recognize all of the load you’re carrying and know that it’s okay to feel the way you do.”

Struggling with self-compassion? Take a moment today to pause and check in with yourself. And if you need some guidance on that journey, our therapists are here to help. We LOVE seeing the transformation that happens when you start to believe in self-compassion and give it to yourself!
