About the Owners
Hi! We’re Samantha and Stacy, co-owners of Set Sail Counseling, LLC. Set Sail was born out of two dreams, a friendship, and a shared vision of client focused, feminist-centered counseling.
Having worked together for more than 8 years, we both felt an increasingly strong desire to incorporate intersectionality within the therapeutic space. We believe that you cannot treat a person without treating the whole person, and that all of our social stratifications (i.e., race, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, etc.) do not exist separately from the other. We recognize that every challenge you have faced is a different piece of the puzzle that is you– and you can’t finish a puzzle if you’re missing pieces! As American writer, feminist, and civil rights activist Audre Lord declared, “There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives.”
While our practice has a focus on women’s issues and trauma, we are thrilled to work with all gender identities (though we do not provide services for anyone under the age of 18). We also have experience with many other issues such as anxiety and mood disorders (like clinical depression or bipolar disorder). We’re honored that you are considering us as you launch forth into your journey toward healing, wellness, and creating the joy that you deserve.
We guide our company using our core values: Courage, Compassion, and Excellence
About The Staff
Stacy Dove, LPC – Owner and Therapist
Hi! I’m glad you dropped by, because if you’re here, it means you’re either ready to jump into therapy or you’re feeling therapy curious and want to figure out who and what this is all about. Either way, if you’re a therapy veteran or new to all of this, welcome!
I’ve been practicing as a therapist for over 18 years- time really does fly when you’re having fun! My style is a mix of ‘whatever technique or theory resonates best with you,’ bringing my whole self and sense of humor into sessions, and helping you to find your power while becoming your own mental health detective and problem solver. In all seriousness, though, I use Cognitive Behavioral approaches and their offshoots (like Dialectical Behavior Therapy) most often. I am certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD, which is a 12-session evidence based treatment for trauma.
What does “bringing my whole self into the therapy room” mean? I’m a psychology and therapy nerd – I will share that knowledge with you. I’m tail end Gen X: sarcasm and dark humor have been our main coping skills, along with lots of creative cursing. Do I use that to demean or dismiss your problems, though? Never.
I love learning about people and digging way deep in to who they are. I do that to myself all the time. Exploring changing sexuality or gender expression later in life? I want to walk that journey next to you. Trying to deconstruct all the ways that society keeps us small and complacent? I’m definitely down for that. Trying to break free from anxiety’s hold on you? Let’s do it! Lots of us are highly anxious these days and need that neutral person to bring us down off the anxiety ledge.
Outside of the therapy room, I fill my time with family & framily, arcades, the beach, and music. I enjoy challenging myself to learn art skills and to travel more, along with anything that helps keep my brain busy. (And of course, scrolling memes completes my soul.)
I’m a dreamer and a do-er. I’m here and ready to cheer you on, help figure out what’s holding you back, and start taking steps to aim for the stars!
Samantha Liggett – Owner and Practice Manager
Hi! My name is Samantha Liggett, but you can call me Sam, and I am the Practice Manager for Set Sail Counseling. I believe that therapy is life-changing, and that taking the first step towards recovery is one of the most courageous things we can do. I manage the business side of our practice and I am here to help you sail through some of the back-end aspects of counseling, like insurance claims, deductibles, and copays. I am also your first point of contact and will help get you set up with your initial appointment if you decide to begin services with one of our therapists.
I’ve been active in the mental health field for 10 years, with roles ranging from direct care staff in a residential program to administrative coordination of therapy services for school-age students. I hold a degree in Business Studies, and I have found that I’m at my best when I am behind the scenes. My calling has always been to keep things organized and to help people navigate barriers to therapy, be it financial, emotional, or physical.
I openly identify as a queer person and find it especially rewarding to assist other folx from the LGBTQ+ community start their therapeutic journey in a safe and affirming environment. When I’m not working, I enjoy playing video games, watching horror films, laughing too loudly at terrible puns, and travelling the country to see my favorite band, Pearl Jam, perform live shows. (I’ve been to seven shows and have travelled as far as Minnesota to see them!) I’m also a fan of cosmology, and an even bigger fan of my cats– a Maine Coon/Abyssinian mix named Ninja and a rescue named Amelia.
Stachia Lippy, LPC – Therapist
Hi there! My name is Stachia and since you’ve found yourself here, I think it’s safe to assume that you just did one of the bravest things you could ever do…. start the process of bettering your mental health! Rest assured, I’m here to help you do just that. I am passionate about providing quality therapy services and will do everything I can to help you change your life, for the better.
I started my journey in the mental health field with crisis intervention services. I am very grateful for that experience, as it provided me with a solid background on how to help people at their lowest moments. Eventually, I followed my dream of wanting to provide therapy services to individuals and obtained my master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. I have been providing therapy in some fashion ever since! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and have been trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Forward Facing Trauma Therapy. I tend to gravitate most towards CBT and DBT and am a gender-affirming therapist operating from a trauma-informed lens.
When I’m not at work, you can catch me at the gym, spending time with family and friends, or reading mystery/thriller books.
